Chairman's Message

The European Group on Atomic Systems (EGAS) has been organising an uninterrupted series of successful yearly conferences for the past 42 years. In 2011, the 43rd edition of this conference series (EGAS-43) will be held for the first time in Switzerland.

The program of EGAS-43 consists of 10 invited Plenary Lectures, 10 invited Progress Reports and 40 Contributed Talks, as well as two Poster Sessions and a Public Evening Lecture. A half-day Mini-Symposium will be devoted to atomic magnetometry.

EGAS-43 will feature substantially more contributed oral presentations than previous EGAS conferences. We therefore ask you to encourage your students to attend. We will be able, as in the past, to provide financial support to a limited number of graduate students.

The conference venue will be the very modern Pérolles-II campus of the University of Fribourg, where we expect to welcome up to 250 participants.

On behalf of the EGAS Board and the local Organising Committee I want to invite all researchers working in fields related to atomic, molecular and optical physics to attend EGAS-43.

I am sure that you will enjoy this scientifically very broad conference and its vivid poster sessions. You will also love our small bilingual university town with its charming medieval old city, the culinary pleasures of the region, its close proximity (less than one hour) to the mountains and the lake district, or the nearby Old City (UNESCO Heritage) of Berne.

Attending EGAS-43 will leave you with persistent memories.

The success of EGAS-43 will be your success !
